Accidental Counsellor Workshop

The Accidental Counsellor Workshop is a one-day, evidence-based professional development program designed for people who regularly support others in their work or volunteer roles. Accredited by Suicide Prevention Australia, this practical workshop equips participants with the confidence and skills to respond safely and effectively when someone is experiencing emotional distress.

This workshop is suitable for social and community workers, educators, managers and frontline staff, support and disability workers, health and aged care staff, coaches, volunteers, youth leaders, and anyone who regularly finds themselves being the “go-to” person for others.

Learn how to:

  • feel more confident and certain in safely and effectively supporting people in distress or experiencing a crisis.

  • identify a range of basic counselling skills relevant to your role.

  • define the attributes required of an “accidental counsellor.”

  • empower the person in need to discover their own solutions and next best step.

  • move from giving to receiving solutions.

  • reflect on and articulate the boundaries of your role.

  • assess when a problem needs to be referred.

  • identify & create evidence-based well-being habits for yourself and clients.

Participants receive a comprehensive training resource handbook and certificate.

Training provided by Empowered Minds Training & Consultancy in conjunction with New England Community College
