Whether you’re a hospitality enthusiast, an aspiring barista, or looking to upskill, this course is the perfect first step to mastering the art of espresso coffee.

Participants gain practical, hands-on experience using commercial espresso machines and grinders, developing the skills required to prepare high-quality coffee beverages and deliver professional customer service in hospitality settings.


Language, Literacy and Numeracy (ACSF)

To successfully complete this course, participants should have skills aligned to the following Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) levels:

  • Reading: Level 2

  • Writing: Level 2

  • Oral Communication: Level 2–3

  • Learning: Level 2

  • Numeracy: Level 2

Participants must be able to read recipes and instructions, communicate effectively with customers and team members, follow hygiene and safety procedures, and complete basic documentation.

Course Overview

This course equips participants with the foundational skills and knowledge required to prepare and serve espresso coffee to industry standards.

In this course, you will learn to:

  • Extract and serve espresso-based beverages such as cappuccinos, lattes and long blacks

  • Select, grind and monitor coffee beans for optimal flavour

  • Texture milk for different beverages and maintain consistent quality

  • Advise customers, take detailed orders, and present coffee attractively

  • Clean and maintain espresso machines and grinders in line with industry standards

All major coffee styles are covered, including:

  • Café latte

  • Cappuccino

  • Macchiato

  • Long and short black

  • Mocha

You will also learn about different coffee beans, working with a range of milk types, and correct equipment cleaning procedures.


Certification

Upon successful completion of assessment tasks, students will be awarded a:

  • Statement of Attainment for
    SITHFAB025 – Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee


Entry Requirements

  • Participants must provide valid photo identification on the day of training

  • Pre-requisite:
    SITXFSA005 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety (or equivalent)

If you do not currently hold this unit, please consider enrolling in Safe Food Handling (Level 1) prior to, or alongside, this course.
