Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG)

SITHGAM022 Provide Responsible Gambling Services

The Gaming Machines Act 2001 requires all staff working in venues with gaming machines to complete NSW Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) training.

Important:
RCG training completed interstate is not recognised in NSW.


Language, Literacy and Numeracy (ACSF)

To successfully complete this course, participants should have skills aligned to the following Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) levels:

  • Reading: Level 2–3

  • Writing: Level 2

  • Oral Communication: Level 2–3

  • Learning: Level 2

  • Numeracy: Level 2

  • Digital Skills: Level 2

Participants must be able to interpret gambling legislation and workplace policies, communicate discreetly and professionally with patrons, document gambling-related incidents, and use digital systems required by Liquor & Gaming NSW.

Who Needs RCG Training?

RCG training is essential for anyone involved in gaming machine operations or gambling services in NSW, including:

  • Licensees and registered club secretaries

  • Responsible Gambling Officers (RGOs)

  • Staff working in gaming machine areas

  • Staff involved in paying out winnings

  • Workers managing or supervising gaming activities


Course Content

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of responsible gambling practices, including:

  • Identifying and responding to gambling-related harm

  • Harm minimisation strategies and responsible gambling behaviours

  • Effective patron interaction using the RAAR framework

  • Practical application of responsible conduct of gambling in gaming venues


Certification & Card Issue

Upon successful completion of this course:

  • Students will receive a Statement of Attainment

  • Students will receive an Interim Certificate from Liquor & Gaming NSW

  • The Interim Certificate must be taken to Service NSW within 3 months to obtain your RCG competency card

  • RCG competency cards are valid for five (5) years

Participants must provide valid photo identification on the day of training.


Mandatory Online Assessment (Post-Course Requirement)

After completing the course, participants must:

  • Complete the Liquor & Gaming NSW RCG online assessment

  • Receive the assessment link via email or SMS

  • Achieve a 100% pass mark (unlimited attempts allowed)

  • Complete the assessment in approximately 20 minutes

  • Complete the assessment preferably in one sitting, within one week of finishing the course

Once passed, an RCG Interim Certificate will be issued via email.

Participants who successfully complete the assessment will be issued a Statement of Attainment for this unit.
