Work Safely at Heights

RIIWHS204E Work Safely at Heights

This course is designed for individuals working in operational roles where they are required to work at heights and where there is a risk of falling.

It applies to work carried out:

  • At any height where there is a potential to fall and cause injury

  • From one level to another

  • On elevated work platforms (EWPs)

  • From or around scaffolding


Language, Literacy and Numeracy (ACSF)

To successfully complete this course, participants should have skills aligned to the following Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) levels:

  • Reading: Level 2–3

  • Writing: Level 2

  • Oral Communication: Level 2

  • Learning: Level 2

  • Numeracy: Level 2

Participants must be able to read and interpret safety signage, workplace procedures and legislation, follow instructions, communicate hazards, and complete basic documentation related to working at heights.

Support options can be discussed at enrolment if required.


Course Overview

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to work safely at heights within the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.

Topics include:

  • Safety requirements and relevant legislation

  • Site inspection and hazard identification

  • Signage and exclusion zones

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Safe access to work areas

  • Safe use of height safety equipment

  • Housekeeping and clean-up procedures


Certification

Upon successful completion of assessment tasks, students will be awarded a:

  • Statement of Attainment for
    RIIWHS204E – Work Safely at Heights

Industry standards recommend completing this course every two (2) years to maintain currency.


Identification Requirements

Participants must provide valid photo identification on the day of training.
